The buckle is lost wax-cast in England from solid bronze, using a caster's pattern hand constructed in England.
Tender's keeper buckle is constructed from a single wire, across two levels. The upper level doubles back on itself at the front, reversing the standard horseshoe so that the separately cast tongue sits neatly in the gap between the two halves of the front section. The back section sweeps back in one, holding the belt firmly in place without a leather keeper.
Prior to the launch of the Trestle Shop, all of Tender's belt buckles have been cast in brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. This buckle, however, is cast from bronze, a similar alloy but with a higher copper content. The extra copper gives bronze a slightly darker, pinker, cast, and over time it will patinate darker than brass does.
Tender's belts cut from this brown stained oak bark leather are also available with 'Wire', 'Stud', and 'S' buckles, and on black leather with a bronze 'Hook'. 'Loops' belts are made with cotton webbing. Wattle-tanned leather wallets are made unstained or hand-dyed with black logwood. To keep the leather supple and in top condition we recommend using pure mutton tallow Boot Grease.
