HAND STRIPED PURPLE LOGWOOD DYED VEST

Tender's English made hand-striped vests are the result of an experiment to paint dye by hand directly onto a finished garment. Each one is individually painted and is unique. This Tshirt has been painted in black and purple stripes with logwood.

The vest itself is made out of cotton interlock (thicker and more robust than single jersey), cut in one piece with no shoulder seam. This follows research into early Twentieth Century underwear and sportswear. By cutting in one piece there is no shoulder seam to rub against the skin, or stretch or fray. Also, as the folded shoulder line is horizontal, this cut gives slightly more room for the arm to move than a standard slope-shouldered cut. To achieve a folded shoulder, the tube of fabric which is originally knitted first needs to be cut and spread out flat (as opposed to tubular Ts, a vintage staple). 

Vegetable dyed garments should be washed separately at first, as the colour can transfer when the item is still fairly new.

Hand-striped vests are also available dyed with black logwood, and hand-striped logwood Tshirts can be found dyed black and purple. The same purple logwood is also used to dye bias-cut boxer shorts.
