NATASHA KROLL FOR TENDER Co. UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON DESIGN ARCHIVES TOTE BAG

William's great aunt Natasha Kroll RDI, (Moscow 1912 - London 2004) was a display, graphic, and set designer. This bag is produced in collaboration with the University of Brighton Design Archives, where Natasha's work is held, and is a companion to her prints in the mainline Tender Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The drawing of a man blowing bubbles from a pipe is taken from one of Natasha's sketchbooks: the bubbles have been replaced with alternating Tender Co. Plautus faces and University of Brighton Stars.

In 1942 Natasha was appointed Display Manager at Simpson’s Picadilly, a position previously held by both Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Ashley Havinden. In 1956 she joined the BBC in the production design department, designing for many dramatic and factual programmes including Monitor. This led to film work, and in 1973 Natasha won a BAFTA for Best Art Direction, on Alan Bridges’ The Hireling.

This collaboration bag is made in a Fair Trade certified factory in Kolkata, India, from 100% cotton, then hand screen-printed in England with water-based ink. It is hand stamped on the reverse with the Trestle Shop brand.

Also printed with this illustration are a Tshirt and bandana.
