Natural beeswax is collected from the hives of honey bees, where it picks up colour and scent. Tender's candles are not coloured or perfumed, so they retain these natural subtle qualities. The wick is square braided and all cotton, with no chemical core.
The candles are poured into jars thrown in England from natural red clay, slipped with white clay. After the candle is burned down, the jar may be used as a beaker.
When burning a natural beeswax candle for the first time, you should allow the wax to melt and pool to the full diameter of the jar, otherwise a tunnel can form through the wax, meaning that the wax at the sides might not burn fully. The jar can become hot after burning for a long time- please take care.
Tender's hand thrown coffee mug, coffee pot, and milk jug are made from the same red clay as the candle jar. Candles could be burned on a table supported by a pair of Tender's solid sweet chestnut trestles.
