Loading... Please wait...Tender's Trestle Shop takes its name from the great British railway trestle bridges of the Nineteenth Century, and our products are sold from a table supported by these trestles, rather like a market stall or the spare parts bench in a locomotive repairs workshop.
The trestles are hand made in England by Tender's Master Cabinet Maker, from seasoned solid English Sweet Chestnut, with copper-nailed oak bark-tanned leather rail tops. The joints are morticed and pegged, and the frame is held by two English-woven cotton webbing straps. The feet and rails are cut horizontally to form a stable support to a table top. The leather rail tops improve grip, and the solid brass hinges allow the trestles to open and close smoothly.
The sweet chestnut wood is left untreated, so it will darken and patinate beautifully with age.
Trestles are not available from stock but can be made to order, to your preferred measurements. Please contact us for production time, delivery costs, and further information.
Also made from English sweet chestnut is Tender's 'Apple Crate' tray. Coffee poured from Tender's hand thrown coffee pot can be served on a trestle table, in a coffee mug, with milk from a red clay milk jug. A pure beeswax candle could be set with them.
